Collegiate Recovery Specialist

Sarah MacDonald, CSC-AD

Sarah MacDonald is the Collegiate Recovery Specialist at Maryland Addiction Recovery Center (MARC). She joined MARC in 2016 as a Therapist Assistant in the extended care community living treatment program, working closely with patients, and collaborating with MARC’s clinical and medical teams.

Sarah later transitioned into the role of Office Manager, where she supervised administrative staff, coordinated key vendor relationships, managed office operations, and supported company leadership with special projects. In 2018, she completed a clinical internship and earned a degree in Chemical Dependency Counseling.

She was the first clinician to oversee MARC’s College Success Program as Collegiate Recovery Specialist before transitioning into the role of Primary Therapist, where she provided direct clinical care and case management. Ultimately, Sarah returned to her passion—helping young adults explore career and values-aligned goals while navigating academic pathways with recovery at the forefront—resuming her position as Collegiate Recovery Specialist.

In her current role, Sarah works with patients to assess their readiness to reengage in their academic and educational pursuits. She is actively involved in MARC’s partnership with Caron Treatment Centers and their College Success Program, implementing evidence-based collegiate programming for MARC patients pursuing education during treatment and recovery. She provides individual and group clinical support, monitors academic progress, and facilitates case management services, ensuring patients, their families, and educational institutions are aligned for success.

Outside of work, Sarah is dedicated to continuing her education and cherishes time with her husband and children.

Our Editorial Guidelines

Part of the journey from substance use disorder into recovery is education. At MARC, we believe the best way to serve our addiction and recovery community is to create and elevate content, resources, curriculum, and other educational materials according to an established editorial standard.

Our aim is to activate and restore hope by sharing current, helpful, accurate, and practical data that applies to our patients and their loved ones.
