MARC’s extended care Community Living Treatment program is a long-term, community-reintegration treatment approach offering a full continuum of care for anyone suffering from addiction, substance use disorder, or co-occurring disorders.

Whether in need of structured aftercare following a detox, stabilization, or a 28-day inpatient rehab, or a step up in treatment intensity of a traditional outpatient treatment program, MARC’s Community Living Treatment Program model offers an extended care program that appropriately transitions patients back to a life of recovery through a reintegration system that focuses on identifying and overcoming the underlying causes of addiction. This is accomplished through robust clinical and psychiatrist services, social and life skills development, community recovery support, and finding purpose through MARC vocational programming or the Caron College Success™ at Maryland Addiction Recovery Center educational program.

Who is a candidate for Community Living Treatment?

MARC’s extended care Community Living Treatment program can assist:

A patient completing a month-long residential treatment stay or inpatient rehab
Individuals in need of comprehensive and structured aftercare
Those that have been in multiple inpatient rehabs
Clients that struggle in IOP and need structured living and more intense clinical services
Chronic relapsing patients
Young adults in need of life skills development, academic and vocational support

About Extended Care Treatment

MARC’s Extended Care treatment is a Community Living Treatment model that combines the latest clinical modalities, evidence-based therapies, and 12-Step principles. Patients receive treatment at MARC’s clinical campus, where they take part in evidence-based comprehensive treatment services, while living at the MARC community living campus, staffed 24/7 by the MARC therapeutic support staff. This two-campus model is meant to support a gradual community reintegration, allowing patients to identify and overcome clinical issues while gradually accessing a life of recovery outside of the treatment milieu.

Treatment in MARC’s extended care Community Living Treatment program takes place in the form of individual, group, and family therapy, psychiatry, intensive case management, holistic services, life skills development and either MARC’s unique vocational programming or the Caron College Success™ at Maryland Addiction Recovery Center academic and college program. Each patient receives individualized treatment through an assigned master’s level Primary Therapist during their stay in treatment. Clinical focus through both individual and group therapy sessions explores trauma, relationships, attachment issues, gender specific issues, family dynamics, process addictions and spirituality. Patients also deal with medical and psychiatric issues through MARC’s Medical Director and medical staff, who work alongside the clinical staff in an integrated fashion.

About the Vocational/Educational Component

After initial engagement in the MARC extended care Community Living Treatment program, patients will move to either the MARC Vocational Program or the Caron College Success™ at Maryland Addiction Recovery Center college program. Both programs offer the necessary training, guidance, and support to move a patient from full-time treatment into the next step in their early recovery, working at a job or a career, or engaging in higher education.

About Community Living

During MARC’s extended care treatment program, as well as while stepping down through phases of treatment, patients live in a fully staffed, structured non-institutional community living setting. Patients live together in apartments on the MARC community living campus, forming bonds and comradery within the community. This setting supports patient responsibility through peer-to-peer accountability. The community living setting, staffed 24/7 with MARC Therapeutic Assistants (TA’s), offers a structured level of care where patients can learn important life skills outside of the clinical environment. Examples of these skills include introduction and engagement in the 12 Step community through meetings, fellowship and sponsorship, nutrition and cooking education, respectable hygiene, budgeting, and community participation in keeping a well maintained and organized community home. Structured community living allows patients the support and care they need while working through addiction issues as well as behavioral and emotional issues.

Upon immediate admission to MARC’s Community Living Treatment program, patients are given a local MARC alumni connection that they can connect with and go out on pass for recovery-related activities. The community living setting also incorporates a vital aspect of recovery in the form of connection with the local recovery community, offering patients supervised social outings, team building activities, and opportunities to give back to the local community.

Some activities Community Living Treatment patients engage in are:

Community support recovery meetings with sponsors and sober supports (12 Step meetings, SMART Recovery meetings, Celebrate Recovery meetings, Refuge Recovery meetings)
Recovery-oriented picnics, cookouts, music festivals, Recovery walks and 5K races
Movies, bowling, laser tag. nature explorations
Team building activities: ropes courses, rock climbing
Community events: Iron Chef competitions, softball, volleyball, and dodgeball tournaments
