Montgomery County, also known as Montco, is the third most populated county in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania with a 2020 census estimated population of 860,578. Montco is adjacent and directly northwest of Philadelphia. The county seat of Montgomery County is Norristown. The county includes a range of open land and rural areas in the north and densely populated suburban areas near Philadelphia. Montgomery County is a wealthy area as well, home to a booming economy with major employers including Pfizer, Prudential, Quest Diagnostics, and Aetna. Many residents commute to and work in Philadelphia.

Like many other areas in the country, Montgomery County has experienced a rise in drug-related deaths. The use of heroin, opioids, cocaine, alcohol, and prescription pills has reached dangerous levels.

Overdose rates in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania

The increase in overdose rates are to be highlighted. In 2002, there were just a total of 39 drug-related deaths. Now this is shocking, in 2015, there were a total of 177 drug-related deaths. A 351% increase! Many of these overdoses were found to be fatal opiod overdoses. The contributing factor to this, is the increase in heroin and painkiller use, and well as the recent and worrisome surge of fentanyl-cut heroin.
