Release Recovery Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to ensuring all who are ready and willing to seek professional treatment, are able. Release Recovery Foundation again has partnered with 2022 TCS NYC Marathon as a Silver Partner, to raise funds for those in need of treatment. The Foundation has created specific scholarship funds as several treatment facilities, including an LGBTQIA+ focused scholarship at Caron Treatment Centers and a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) focused scholarship at Ashley Addiction Treatment.

Last year, the Foundation had 61 runners complete the race and raised over $400,000 for those who suffer from substance use and/or mental health disorders. Several staff members at MARC competed in last year’s NYC Marathon, helping to raise over $15,000 towards the total raised by Release Recovery Foundation. This year, MARC Co-Founder and Executive Director Sam Bierman will once again be running the NYC Marathon on Sunday, November 6th, 2022, to help raise money for Release Recovery Foundation scholarship funds. Through hours of training, determination and sheer grit, Sam victoriously crossed the finish line in his first marathon last year and is again training hard to cross the finish line in 2022.

All the money raised by the Release Recovery Foundation and all the runners in the 2022 New York City Marathon running under the Release Recovery Foundation banner go directly to care for individuals in needs. The Foundation believes that by allocating funds directly to patient care, they are creating opportunities for each recipient to make the world a better place.

Release Recovery Foundation, in addition to creating specific scholarship funds at certain treatment centers, works with trusted providers that offer addiction treatment services a many different levels of care, including inpatient treatment centers and residential rehabs, outpatient treatment centers, recovery coaches, interventionists, and individual and private practice therapists, counselors, psychologists, and psychiatrists. Additionally, the Foundation ask that all beneficiaries of Foundation funding be willing to complete monthly “check-in” phone calls for a full year with recovery advocates of the Foundation, designed to measure a general improvement in the quality of life of the beneficiary and not simply whether they are substance-free or sober.

“Running in the NYC Marathon is a special event,” MARC Co-Founder and Executive Director Sam Bierman explained. “Running the marathon for Release Recovery Foundation makes it extraordinarily special, and getting the opportunity to treat people afterwards who benefit from the funding that Release Recovery Foundation provides and helping them find recovery makes all the training, injuries, and mental anguish completely worth it!”
