MARC Combats Addiction through Strategic Partnerships with Caron Treatment Centers, Ashley Addiction Treatment and others to fill Community Education, Prevention & Treatment Needs
It is clear that the addiction epidemic in America isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Even though pharmaceutical companies want to make promises to the American public and politicians that they will fix the opioid problem that they themselves had a heavy hand in starting, the truth is that solutions to this crisis will multi-faceted in the form of comprehensive drug education, prevention, long-term addiction treatment and wrap around recovery support services.
Noticing the terrible impact on individuals, families and the community, Maryland Addiction Recovery Center has created several initiatives with like-minded strategic partners in order to fill vital needs in the local Baltimore area and throughout the state of Maryland and the surrounding region.
The first is a partnership with Caron Treatment Centers (www.caron.org), a world renowned addiction treatment organization with locations in Pennsylvania and Florida. MARC and Caron have been partnering for over a year to offer a free parent and family support group at the MARC clinical offices in Towson, Maryland for any parent or family member with a loved one in active addiction, currently in treatment or in recovery from addiction. This support group is specifically designed to allow parents to help parents through shared experiences.
Recently, MARC has begun to offer several other educational platforms for the local community. The first is a new free bi-monthly continuing education (CEU) seminar in partnership with Ashley Addiction Treatment (formerly Father Martin’s Ashley www.ashleytreatment.org) for local therapists, counselors, psychiatrists and other local professionals. This seminar will bring in speakers from locally and nationally to touch on important topics related to addiction and mental health in order for local Baltimore therapists to be up-to-date on the newest trends and cutting edge techniques in treatment.
A newer partnership is with Capital Services Inc. (www.capital-services.com) a nationwide employee benefits company headquartered in Towson, Maryland. MARC and CSI have partnered to offer a new free monthly educational seminar for local business owners, management and human resources professionals to educate them on the newest topics and trends related to addiction and mental health and how they can go about supporting those employees in need of help. Early topics will include marijuana and its impact in the workplace, chronic pain issues for employees and new trends in toxicology and drug testing.
Along with the three above initiatives, MARC continues to be involved in the local Baltimore Jewish Recovery Network, a group of organizations that includes Baltimore’s Jewish Community Services (www.jcsbaltimore.org), The Nikki Perlow Foundation (www.nikkiperlowfoundation.org), the New Day Campaign (www.newdaycampaign.org) and Caron Treatment Centers. Additionally, MARC continues to offer their “Raising Drug Free Kids” free monthly educational seminar on the first Wednesday of each month with former Baltimore County drug czar Mike Gimbel (https://marylandaddictionrecovery.com/educational-seminars-with-mike-gimbel) to educate parents, teens and community members. Finally, MARC has created a partnerships with the nationwide organization P.A.A.R.I. (the Police Assisted Addiction and Recovery Initiative started by Gloucester, Massachussets Chief of Police Leonard Campanello) as well as continue to support local organizations such as the Carroll County State’s Attorney’s Office and their Drug Treatment & Education Liaison Tim Weber, NCADD-Maryland, The Brendan James Huber Foundation (www.brendanjameshuber.org), Toni Torsch and the Daniel Carl Torsch Foundation and James Place Inc. (www.jamesplaceinc.org).
Overall, it is the goal of Maryland Addiction Recovery Center to be a community-based organization, to offer necessary services outside of our core competencies of addiction treatment that will educate the community on addiction, break addiction stigmas and make sure that individuals and families are able to get vital services in order to overcome addiction and enter a life of recovery. The nationwide addiction epidemic is growing by we can turn the tide by working together in our communities to make sure that education, prevention, treatment and recovery services are available to those in need.
